About Green Iowa AmeriCorps

National Service Meets Local Impact

Since 2010 Green Iowa AmeriCorps members from near and far have helped our community reduce energy consumption through energy efficiency, education, and boots on the ground community sustainability work.  Our members are passionate, service-minded individuals with diverse backgrounds who serve from September to August. Learn more about becoming a Green Iowa AmeriCorps member.

Home Efficiency Program

The Green Iowa AmeriCorps team provides low-cost, high-return energy saving services through the Home Efficiency program, which can substantially reduce household utility expenses and energy consumption while increasing home comfort.

Through the program, the average resident of Winneshiek County saves roughly $140 annually on their utility bills (though this varies greatly depending on characteristics of your home). The program is a great investment for tenants and homeowners alike!

Education and Outreach

Through outreach and education, we highlight the importance of energy conservation and how our collective change in energy use habits enhances the entire community.  We host “do-it-yourself” workshops, teach lessons at preschools, help at area summer camps, implement volunteer generating projects, and are eager and open to partnering with existing local groups and institutions. Cotnact giaeducation@energydistrict.org or giaoutreach@energydistrict.org  to partner with our team and help spread the word on how simple, fun and effective energy conservation can be.
