A workshop on home maintenance and weatherization techniques will be presented in the Upper Explorerland conference room, 325 Washington Street, at 6:30pm, October 18th.

This workshop is meant to assist homeowners and renters learn more about building science, how to properly maintain their homes, and teach techniques for sealing up their properties to reduce utility bills. The program will highlight best practices in weatherization, recommended air sealing products, and share local resources to assist homeowners with their projects.

The program will be presented by Scott Timm, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Field Specialist. Timm has worked as a Field Specialist and Sustainability Coordinator in Iowa for 9 years, recently moving to Decorah from Fairfield. He has led multiple large-scale energy efficiency campaigns and trained hundreds of volunteers in weatherization techniques.

The workshop is free and open to the public. The registration deadline is noon, October 18; register by calling the Winneshiek County Extension office at 563-382-2949.


Kristin Eggen first came to the Winneshiek Energy District as a Green Iowa AmeriCorps member in 2015. Eight years later, she is thrilled to lead the grassroots clean energy movement in Winneshiek County. Kristin deeply appreciates rural communities, Northeast Iowa, community sustainability, and nonprofit management. She uses The Art of Hosting Conversations that Matter methodology and graphic recording services to drive strategic conversations around community sustainability, justice, fundraising, and nonprofit health.
