The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law was passed in late 2021, and the Biden administration released a valuableRural Playbookto help rural America identify and access funding opportunities. The BIL will bring major investment in many aspects of the clean energy transition that we’ll discuss going forward, but we want to highlight theClean School Bus Program Funding, which is NOW OPEN.This $5 billion pot is administered by EPA directly (not through states), and will be apparently allocated in whole or large part based on a lottery system.Priority school districtshave 90 days to get their application in for funding that appears likely to cover full costs for one or more electric buses.

Kristin Eggen first came to the Winneshiek Energy District as a Green Iowa AmeriCorps member in 2015. Eight years later, she is thrilled to lead the grassroots clean energy movement in Winneshiek County. Kristin deeply appreciates rural communities, Northeast Iowa, community sustainability, and nonprofit management. She uses The Art of Hosting Conversations that Matter methodology and graphic recording services to drive strategic conversations around community sustainability, justice, fundraising, and nonprofit health.
