Weatherization

The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) provides many northeast Iowans with the means to remain in their homes in safety, comfort, and affordability. Services include a cost-effectiveness energy audit, air leakage checks, insulation, and all combustion appliances inspection for repair and/or replacement. NEICAC’s own crews provide all but appliance and furnace repair services. Certified area contractors and vendors do the authorized appliance and furnace work. Agency staff does a quality control final inspection. (Tip: This program is a great complement to the Green Iowa AmeriCorps First Step Home Efficiency Program.)

LIHEAP

Energy assistance is important to all that receive it, but more so if someone in your home is elderly, disabled or a young child under 6 years old. These persons are especially at risk for life threatening illness or death if their home is too cold in the winter or too hot in the summer.

Kristin Eggen first came to the Winneshiek Energy District as a Green Iowa AmeriCorps member in 2015. Eight years later, she is thrilled to lead the grassroots clean energy movement in Winneshiek County. Kristin deeply appreciates rural communities, Northeast Iowa, community sustainability, and nonprofit management. She uses The Art of Hosting Conversations that Matter methodology and graphic recording services to drive strategic conversations around community sustainability, justice, fundraising, and nonprofit health.
