Decorah Band & Trust Company Begins Use of Solar Panels

Decorah Bank & Trust Company has just put into operation the largest rooftop solar installation to date in Decorah. The 22 kilowatt (kW) photovoltaic solar array sits on the bank roof. It should produce enough energy to power the equivalent of three average-sized homes.
Dennis Pottratz of Go Solar in Decorah managed and installed the system with the help of local contractors. “It has been rewarding to learn ways to reduce our energy usage and then produce some of our own energy through solar power,” comments Joe Grimstad, chief operations officer of Decorah Bank. Solar has come a long way in both technology and cost. Grimstad comments, “It’s a long payback – but we plan on sticking around for a while so it makes sense for our business.”
