December Energy Breakfast: Decorah Sustainability Committee
December 17, 2019 @ 7:30 am - 8:30 am
On Tuesday, December 17th at 7:30 AM at T-Bock’s downstairs, the Decorah Sustainability Committee will present a draft of a proposed new city sustainability plan and gain feedback from attendees. RSVP by Friday the 13th at energydistrict.org/breakfast.
Last year, Mayor Borowski appointed a Sustainability Committee for the purpose of reviewing and updating the city’s 2010 sustainability plan, These nine volunteers aim to create a new plan with tangible deliverables that will “reduce our carbon impacts, mitigate our vulnerability to floods, strengthen our local economy and create a more connected and welcoming community.” The plan addresses eight categories areas: Energy use, transportation, zero-waste, economic development, Communication and educational outreach, social vitality or sustainability,
When asked why it is important to have a sustainability plan, committee chair Emily Neal says “It will bring more continuity to the city, communicating a common vision and common goals that came from community meetings. Having a sustainability plan will also help distinguish us from other communities. Decorah is already seen as a place that cares about sustainability, but now we would have the plan to back that up.”
At this point, the committee is seeking input from the community on the current draft. The final draft will be submitted to the mayor/city council for approval and adoption.
