E-Waste Round-up at the Market

July 25, 2018 @ 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Where: Winneshiek Farmers Market, Oneota Co-op Parking lot, Decorah

When: Wednesday, July 25th, 3:00 – 6:00 PM

What:  Accepted items: old cell phones, chargers, iPods/MP3 players, and headphones.

You can also mail your e-waste to Emily with a postmark date of 7/24 or sooner: Emily Osborne c/o Winneshiek Energy District, PO Box 14, Decorah, IA 52101.

Participants will help conserve wildlife by reducing the need for mining and human interference by donating old cell phones, chargers, iPods/MP3 players, and headphones. Donations will be sent to Eco-Cell to be properly disposed of.

Coltan, an ore mined in African countries, is a key element in manufacturing small devices (i.e. cell phones) that often results in chimpanzee and gorilla poaching. Additionally, unsustainable mining techniques perpetuate the degradation of these species’ habitats. Eco-Cell has been recycling cell phones and supporting wildlife habitat since 2003.
